Rice bran hydrolysis as a nutrient medium for high-density Bacillus culture

Using enzymes to turn rice-bran by-product into a targeted source of protein and carbohydrate.

Using enzymes to turn rice-bran by-product into a targeted source of protein and carbohydrate.

The problem: making use of a nutrient-rich by-product

Rice bran is a readily available by-product containing protein, carbohydrate and many bioactive amino acids. KMVE proposes enzymatic extraction to increase the targeted nutrients and replace part of the synthetic medium used in microbial culture.

Wider applications

Beyond culture media, the amino acids and minerals in rice bran can be studied as an addition to animal feed or as an enrichment for food products.

Value for a circular economy

Turning an agricultural by-product into a technological raw material can reduce waste, add value along the supply chain and provide a basis for new biological products.
